His books focus on the history and archaeology of the American Southwest. The most recent, In the Places of the Spirits, brings together more than thirty years of photographing, exploring, and thinking about the Southwest.
GALLERIES/ART SOURCES IN AND ABOUT THE SANTA FE AREA www.andrewsmithgallery.com Santa Fe's premier gallery of vintage photography. www.visitmadridnm.com/JohnsonsofMadrid/index.html My gallery, Johnsons may be the oldest extant gallery in New Mexico, representing over 100 artists, from traditional to very contemporary. Very much worth a visit if you are in the area, even if I do say so myself. http://vervegalleryofphotography.com/?p=welcome Recently established, Verve shows a wide ranging group of contemporary photographers and artists using photography as part of their process. http://www.photoeye.com PhotoEye is both a fine gallery of photography and the nation's largest bookseller of photography books. Well worth a visit. www.eldoradoarts.org Back in 1991, I was one of the founders of this organization of artists living and practicing in my community of Eldorado at Santa Fe, New Mexico. The site will give you an overview of the wide ranging depth of work produced by Eldorado artists. An annual Open Studio Tour is held each May. www.collectorsguide.com is New Mexico's premier annual publication/catalog of well-established New Mexico artists in all media. http://www.nnmrac.org/index.html The Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center, recently established, highlights the work of northern New Mexico artists through regularly scheduled juried exhibitions. The Center will soon undertake a full arts education program. The Center is located in Espanola.
PHOTOGRAPHY RESOURCES www.asmp.org is the premier national professional photographers' business association. It's focus is to train photographers in the business of photography. Lots of business and copyright information is available to the public on it's site. http://nmphotoguide.com was recently created to promote photography and photographers, as well as other related businesses and organizations in New Mexico. The guide is intended to help visitors and new residents find photographic products, services and events of interest. www.photopolymergravure.com was also recently created to highlight the gravure process using digital technology and photopolymer sensitised plates. Gravure is a process of etching an image onto a plate, inking it, and printing it through a press.
PUBLISHING RESOURCES Red Mountain Press, the publishers of my book Connections, publishes poetry, literary prose, and occasionally, photography. Freisens Corporation Book Division, Canada's premier art book publisher, printed Connections with great care and skill, resulting in excellent reproduction of difficult to print photographs. |
